Commissioned and produced by the Chorus and BAM and premiered in November 2014 at the BAM Next Wave Festival, Black Mountain Songs is an expansive choral work that celebrates and rekindles the utopian spirit of Black Mountain College. Curated by Bryce Dessner (The National) and Richard Reed Parry (Arcade Fire), with works by Dessner, Parry, Caroline Shaw, Nico Muhly, Aleksandra Vrebalov, John King, Jherek Bischoff, and Tim Hecker.
“The choral songs at the heart of this work are performed with confidence, energy, and tenderness. …The sheer beauty of their singing was captivating.” —The New York Times
