Matthew Brady
Matthew Brady is active as a conductor, soloist, chamber musician and educator. In addition to his role as Associate Conductor and Principal Pianist at Brooklyn Youth Chorus Academy, he is currently on the Faculty of the Mannes College of Music where he conducts the Vocal Chamber Ensemble and the Senior Chorus of the Preparatory Division. Mr. Brady also servers as the Middle and Upper School Choral Director at The Berkeley Carroll School. Mr. Brady was recently invited to serve as Chorus Master of Chelsea Opera Company, and he received a grant to study and perform as Full Conductor at the 2008 Sarteano Chamber Choral Festival in Italy, under the direction of Sir Simon Carrington.
A recent New York Times concert review of the BYCA Junior Chorus said, "The Chorus sang with impeccable diction and gave stylish performances of adventurous pieces.”
Mr. Brady was a member of the Piano Faculty at the 92nd Street Y for eight years, and for three seasons was the Summer Music Director of The American School in Switzerland. In 2003 he was named a Scholar at the Berkshire Choral Festival and he has been a Grand Prize Winner in the Des Moines Symphony Concerto Competition. Mr. Brady has performed as a pianist in concerts at Carnegie Hall and the 92nd Street Y, and made his recital debut at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. in 1998. Mr. Brady has served as Chairman of New Music review for the Executive Board of the New York State Music Teachers Association. A strong advocate for the performance of contemporary music, he is committed to performing the works of emerging composers. Mr. Brady received his Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music, and was awarded the CME Artist-Teacher Diploma from the Association for Choral Music Education in 2005. . His teachers have included Seymour Bernstein, Doreen Rao, and Jean Barr.
