Kristen Von Bargen is in her third year as associate conductor.
Prior to joining Brooklyn Youth Chorus, she was a conductor with the Kennett Symphony Children’s Chorus in West Chester, PA where she conducted their middle school level ensemble for five years. She has taught elementary school through high school general music and chorus for six years in Pennsylvania public schools and recently relocated to New York. During her time in Pennsylvania, she successfully prepared both elementary and high school students for District and Region level Pennsylvania Music Educator’s Association choruses and her choirs participated in both local and regional festivals. Most recently, her high school chorus competed at the Big Apple Classic competition and was awarded a 1st Place Gold rating and the Overall Grand Champion Choir award.
Mrs. Von Bargen received her Bachelors from West Chester University of Pennsylvania and has continued her studies at both the University of the Arts and West Chester University. She holds her Orff Level III certification and has extensive training and experience teaching with the Kodály methodology. She is the founding director of West Chester University’s first a cappella group, Gracenotes, who was featured on the 2008 “Ben Folds Presents: University A Cappella” album. She is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education, and Sweet Adelines International.
