We all miss the incomparable experience of singing together side by side. However, the severity and contagiousness of COVID-19 – as well as early indications that choral singing may create particularly transmissible settings – make it essential that all of our programming and performing decisions put the safety of our students, staff, and community first.
With that in mind, we have decided that Brooklyn Youth Chorus will be completely virtual in the Fall. Making this decision now, and for the entirety of the fall through December 2020, allows us to put our full attention on re-envisioning choral education in a virtual space for our students. Since we pivoted to online learning in March, we have gained valuable experience and gathered important feedback. Now, we are preparing an enriched curriculum to take advantage of the many resources and modalities that online learning makes available, that explores new technologies, and welcomes special guests and collaborators. Come Fall we look forward to providing a choral experience that is engaging and rewarding in new and exciting ways.
Registration will be held online only, and not in-person. To register, login to the Parent Portal using the credentials sent in your placement email.
Brooklyn Youth Chorus offers exceptional choral music training for both boys and girls, ages 7 to 21 years old. No experience is required, but a love of singing and enthusiasm for music is essential.
** COVID-19 AUDITION UPDATE **
Due to the restrictions on public gatherings and social distancing measures, Brooklyn Youth Chorus is temporarily waiving auditions for new singers until further notice. New singers will be automatically placed into the entry-level division based on their current age. Once social distancing rules have been lifted, students may be asked to complete a ‘new singer assessment’, in addition to classroom observations, to ensure the best placement within the Chorus’s division levels.
