This year’s Gala celebrates our Off-Broadway production of Silent Voices: Lovestate, a show that focuses on the power of young people as they lift their collective voices in service of change.
About Brooklyn Youth Chorus
The Grammy-winning Brooklyn Youth Chorus is a collective of young voices led by visionary Founder & Artistic Director Dianne Berkun Menaker. The Chorus has performed or recorded with major world-class orchestras and artist such as the New York Philharmonic, and Los Angeles Philharmonic, The National, Barbra Streisand, Arcade Fire, Elton John, and Grizzly Bear. Recordings of the Chorus have been featured in major motion pictures, commercials, and live events, including Radiohead’s Thom Yorke for rag & bone’s Spring 2016 collection and Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s OTR II World Tour.
Silent Voices: Lovestate, the third installment in the Silent Voices series, builds on the success of its earlier premieres at BAM’s Howard Gilman Opera House, National Sawdust, and Prototype Festival, in a program including stand-out works from the earlier series and new premieres. In Lovestate, a dynamic roster of composers and artists collaborate with the choristers in confronting the challenges of division and categorization, racism, sexism, immigration, threats to our environment and our understanding of truth, as we seek to affirm our vision of a more inclusive and compassionate future—a world we can all look forward to.
