Dear Brooklyn Youth Chorus Community,
Thank you for being an integral part of our highly unusual 29th season! We are more grateful than ever for the joyful enthusiasm, musical prowess, and sheer determination of our choristers as we tune in to virtual rehearsals, navigate online recording studios, and enrich our musical learning with new skills. Our mutual love of singing shines brighter than ever in these challenging virtual times.
In June we announced that for the safety of our students, staff, and families we would start our 2020-2021 season virtually and would make decisions about 2021 in November. Well, today, as we see cases of COVID-19 once again surge through our country, and as we anxiously track the seven-day rolling average of positive tests in New York City we write to let you know that we are extending our VIRTUAL season through April 4. While we may explore the possibility of optional, small-group, in-person meet ups prior to that time, April 5 is the earliest we will consider restarting in-person rehearsals.
While we have been buoyed by recent news of early results of vaccination trials we recognize that we don’t yet know when it will be safe to return to in-person rehearsals or performances. We expect vaccination information will come at a much faster pace in 2021 and will continue to monitor news and follow government guidelines as more information becomes available. We plan to make additional announcements about rehearsal and performance plans for April-June by the end of February.
Meanwhile we look forward to our upcoming Winter concerts and getting to see and hear the results of all of choristers’ hard work. We will ring in the season with Home For The Holidays on Saturday, December 19, at 7PM featuring the Concert Ensemble, Men’s Ensemble, and Junior Ensemble as well as the premiere of our All-School finale and a guest appearance by Met Opera Mezzo, Rebecca Ringle Kamarei. One month later on January 30, at 4PM we will feature our fantastic Prep, Pre-Teen, and Teen Level Singers in Winter’s Song.
As we all learn and grow together through this season of silver linings and glasses half full we thank you for joining us week in and week out and for your continued support of this organization and community we love so dear. We always enjoy hearing from our singers and families and particularly welcome your feedback as we try out new ideas and formats in this virtual world. We are only an email away if you have any suggestions, questions, or concerns. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Wishing you all a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
Yours In Song,
Dianne Berkun Menaker & Megan Lemley
