Financial Aid
Brooklyn Youth Chorus welcomes every family regardless of financial circumstances. Access is important to us and financial need should never be a barrier. We encourage you to apply for financial aid if you need assistance.
The Financial Aid Application is completed via the Parent Portal, prior to registering for Brooklyn Youth Chorus.
When applying you will be asked to provide a description of your household membership, explanation of financial need, and an estimate of current income. Families may need to provide evidence of receiving social services benefits or tax returns and pay stubs as part of the application process. You do not need to be receiving social services benefits to qualify for financial aid.
Financial aid applications are accepted on a rolling basis, but we are unable to award financial aid until the financial aid application is complete. Incomplete applications will delay your financial aid award and prevent you from registering.
There is a non-refundable $25 application fee, which will be credited toward your registration fee. Please fill out the parent inquiry form should this fee be prohibitive for your family.
Applying for Financial Aid:
Log in to your online Parent Portal account (or create a new account).
Answer the question "Are you applying for Financial Aid?" with Yes.
Follow the prompts to answer the questions.
Upload documentation if requested.
Submit your $25 payment.
You're done!
ADDITIONAL INFO: If we have questions or need to request additional documentation for your application, we will contact you. It is vital that you provide any requested additional information to ensure your application is reviewed as quickly as possible.
+ Can I submit a paper Financial Aid Application?
Unfortunately no. Financial Aid Applications are only accepted online via the Brooklyn Youth Chorus Parent Portal. You can use any device with internet access to submit your Financial Aid Application.
+ How long does it take to complete and submit the application?
It takes approximately 10 minutes to complete the Brooklyn Youth Chorus Financial Aid Application.
+ What documents will I need to submit my Financial Aid Application?
You might be asked to submit your 2020 Tax Return (ex. Form 1040) with all schedules or your most recently completed Tax Return and your most recent paystubs. If applicable, proof of social security, unemployment benefits, and other support documentation may also be requested. Please do not submit your W-2.
+ If financial documentation is requested, how do I submit them?
You will be prompted to digitally upload documents as part of the application. You can use a scan app or the camera on your phone. Additionally, if you’re using the mobile site on your smartphone, you can easily snap and upload the picture. Brooklyn Youth Chorus staff may also contact you to request additional documents.
+ Does it cost money to submit an application?
Yes, there is a $25 Financial Aid Application Fee, but this will be credited toward your 2021-22 registration fee. However, if this fee is prohibitive for your family please let us know by filling out the parent inquiry form.
+ How and when will I hear about the status of my Financial Aid Application?
It takes approximately 10 business days for your application to be reviewed. Brooklyn Youth Chorus will email your Financial Aid Award amount to the primary contact email listed on your account.
+ Can I complete registration while I'm waiting on my application to be reviewed?
Unfortunately no. Applicants must have completed their Financial Aid Application and then wait to receive their Financial Aid Award before they can complete registration.
+ Can I begin my Financial Aid Application and return later to finish it?
Unfortunately no. The parent portal does not allow users to save an incomplete application. You must complete the application in the same session. However, you can review the entire application before submitting.
+ How do I cancel my application?
If you decide that you do not want to apply for Financial Aid, but still want to enroll in the chorus, please contact us by filling out the parent inquiry form.
+ Can I apply for Financial Aid after we complete registration?
Unfortunately no. Families are not permitted to apply for Financial Aid once they have already completed registration for the 2021-22 season. Families must apply for Financial Aid prior to enrolling in the chorus.
