Song Fest, 2019

Brooklyn Youth Chorus offers a variety of programs for New York City public schools. Our innovative approach to music education not only teaches students about music, it also gives them a platform and opportunity to let their voices be heard and to feel like they belong.

Our experienced teachers introduce students to the fundamentals of music with a relaxed, fun-filled approach. Over the course of the program, students sing music from different cultures, styles and genres. Students who participate in our school programs gain new-found confidence and learn, many for the first time, how to work within a group.

Public School Outreach Programs

Brooklyn Youth Chorus offers in-school programs to help students discover their true voice and begin to learn the art of singing.

Public School Intensive Program

Working together over the course of a 12- to 24-week program, students in grades 3-8 are exposed to the three primary elements of the Brooklyn Youth Chorus curriculum: vocal technique, musicianship and performance. Students are taught by a Brooklyn Youth Chorus conductor and sing music that represents the music of different cultures, styles and genres. Musical elements such as rhythm and pitch are introduced through the music being learned. Students deepen their musical and vocal understanding as they learn new repertoire that will be performed as a group.

5-week Ready-Set-Sing! Program

Brooklyn Youth Chorus offers a 5-week workshop to area schools to help potential choristers learn the art of auditioning. Choristers will be introduced to basic vocal techniques including posture and breathing techniques, participate in mock auditions with Brooklyn Youth Chorus faculty and learn more about auditioning for the Chorus. The 5-week program includes a special audition held at the school so students can join the Chorus the following semester.
